Budimex, by carrying out their projects, is directly contributing to shaping local communities’ surroundings, e.g. by building roads, schools, and hospitals. These are the projects indirectly affecting the creation of new jobs, but construction work means also nuisances, e.g. during transport of construction materials, like dirt and concrete, to construction sites. It involves increased vehicle traffic, noise and dust, traffic restrictions (e.g. rerouting, narrowing and speed limits).
A potential influence on the land within a project surroundings is analysed at the stage of issuing administrative decisions, and the community’s representatives are a party to these proceedings. The purpose of these is, in the first place, to reconcile different interests. We feel responsible for the cases where local inhabitants’ or entrepreneurs’ properties suffer damage for no default of theirs. It is, however, worth emphasising that new projects have also a positive influence on e.g. creating new jobs, developing road-based transport, and making social and cultural space more appealing.
In 2017, a system facilitating feedback on works carried out from inhabitants was implemented in 50% of the projects and an obligation of analysing 100% of the complaints from inhabitants was introduced. In 2017, 3 inhabitants’ satisfaction surveys on the projects carried out in their surroundings were carried out. All incidents and complaints are notified to project managers, who are the closest to a given problem and are capable of responding quickly and taking remedial action. Complaints or irregularities are sometimes notified directly to individuals responsible for supervising a given project or sometimes to Budimex Communication Office. All the complaints are investigated and remedial action is taken where necessary. During the reported period, there were no environment-related conflicts which would have contributed to discontinuing any construction work
