In 2017, the construction of the air traffic control tower in Pyrzowice, servicing the airport in Katowice, was finished. It is intended to improve the safety and fluidity of air traffic. The tower comprises over 1800 m2 of space, which contains: the room with tower control and approach control stations, technical rooms, garages and social facilities. The tower is surrounded by an internal road system and car parks. The control level is located at the altitude of 42 m
The building consists of two elements. The low part is a two-storey building of column and wall construction. The tall part is 45,75 high. Its core is constructed as a vertical support of rectangular cross-section, with elevator and installation shafts. The core is restrained by a 1.8 m thick, 17 by 17 m foundation plate. On the upper part of the core located are horizontal supports, where the floors of the main part of the tower were placed. The tower was covered by a steel roof. Net contract value – PLN 20,220,000.
Budimex: putting the Cracow Zabłocie and Cracow Krzemionki rail connection into service
After 2 years, the rail connection between Cracow Zabłocie and Cracow Krzemionki stations was completed by Budimex SA and Ferrovial Agroman SA and put into service in December 2017, after 4 months of work. The first trains showed up almost immediately after introduction of the new train schedule. Thanks to the new connection, it is possible to travel by rail along the Cracow Główny – Skawina and further to Oświęcim and Zakopane. Because of the connection, the travel time from Cracow to Zakopane was shortened by 15 minutes.
The range of construction works involved the reconstruction of the railway system and construction of a new railway line along railway viaducts between Cracow Zabłocie – Cracow Krzemionki passenger stations. Reconstructed also were passenger stations, roads, overhead contact lines, electromagnetic devices and railway traffic signalling equipment, telecommunication cables and water, sewage, heating and gas networks. The total net cost of the investment was PLN 190 million.
The investment is one of the important elements of modernisation of the Cracow’s railway junction, which will lead to the expansion and improvement of the transport services provided and increase the attractiveness of rail transport in the Cracow agglomeration. The connection is one of the main elements of the National Railway Programme.
Budimex: finalising the construction of the Racibórz Dolny Reservoir
On 30 November 2017, Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman have concluded an agreement with the Regional Water Management Authority in Gliwice for the purpose of finalising the construction of the Racibórz Dolny flood protection reservoir. The scope of the works involves the construction of a dry flood protection reservoir of 22.4 km in length and height of 11 m. It will consist of a dam embankment and a drain overflow construction supplying water to the so called Odra Miejska, left-bank dam – 9.6 km and right-bank dam – 8.8 km. They will have an earth construction. The total capacity of the reservoir will amount to about 185 million m3.
The reservoir will be built as a detention basin – a dry reservoir filled only during floodwater movement. It will protect about 2.5 million inhabitants of the Odra river basin – From Racibórz to Wrocław. Gross contract value – PLN 903,000,000.
Budimex has extensive experience in carrying out hydro-engineering investments. As the general contractor they reconstructed, i.a.: ports in Świnoujście and Szczecin, Płonie Channel close to Martwa Wisła in Gdańsk or Rydzyna Reservoir.
Budimex: construction of a gas pipeline in Lower Silesia
In February 2017, Budimex SA under consortium agreement with Mostostal Kraków SA, began the construction of a high-pressure DN 1000 MOP 8,4 MPa gas pipeline along ZZU Czeszów – Kiełczów node with infrastructure necessary for its operation. The pipeline of 1000 mm in diameter and length of 32.5 km will run through agricultural, forested and partially urbanised areas. It is the first such contract in the history of Budimex.
One year earlier Budimex, as the only company outside the gas sector, passed all pre-qualification requirements of GAZ SYSTEM SA, acquired a multitude of certificates and submitted the most favourable bid in the tender, which enabled the company to enter the market of gaseous fuels. The implementation involves also the construction of shut-off and relief systems with bypass systems near Miłonowice and within Kiełczów node.
Additionally, the consortium is constructing 28 trenchless passages through terrain obstacles by the means of microtunneling in DN 1200 and DN 1400 casing pipes and two bypasses through areas of natural significance with the use of horizontal directional drilling (HDD), with total length of 1250 m. The scope of the investment also involves gas filling and putting the pipeline into service. The total net contract value amounts to PLN 63.79 million, and the completion term is 19 months.
Budimex: construction of the S5 Korzeńsko-Widawa expressway
In October 2017, the works involving design and construction of S5 Poznań – Wrocław expressway along the Korzeńsko section (excluding the junction) – Widawa Wrocław junction (km 108+758 to km 123+700) were completed. The length of the constructed section is 15 km, including district and regional roads. Two road junctions (Żmigródek junction and Żmigród junction), 14 bridges, including one viaduct of 750 m in length, across the existing Poznań – Wrocław railway line and Dolina Baryczy as well as two motorway service areas (MOP) were built under the contract. The scope of the works also involved removal of collisions with PKP infrastructure. The investment value was PLN 480.78 million.
Budimex: revitalisation of the Litewski Square in Lublin
In May 2017 the revitalisation of 35 thousand m2 Litewski Square in Lublin was finished, which involved implementation of a traffic free zone along this central traffic route of the city, while at the same time maintaining the Krakowskie Przedmieście street as a promenade along the section between Kołłątaja and Kapucyńska streets. During the revitalisation, the historic street arrangement was preserved: two garden areas and the central part – open recreational area with a fountain. In the main part an interactive set of water devices was made, which facilitates setting up multimedia displays. Along the Krakowskie Przedmieście promenade’s axis, seven additional fountains were placed. The central part of the square was lined with granite blocks. As part of the investment, Budimex also moved, i.a., the Unknown Soldier Statue and revitalised areas adjacent to Litewski square – Krąpiec Square and Czechowicz Square. The total investment value was PLN 42.89 million.
Budimex and Mostostal Kraków: construction of the Chemistry Faculty buildings of the Jagiellonian University
As part of an investment, located within the area of the Campus of the 600th JU Restoration Anniversary, Budimex in consortium with Mostostal Kraków constructed the JU Chemistry Faculty consisting of seven three-storey and four-storey educational-scientific buildings and a two-level parking with an underground retention reservoir. The buildings were divided into the educational part with a library, seminar rooms, auditoria, and student labs, as well as the scientific part with research labs. All labs were equipped with top-quality research equipment and furniture. The usable area of the buildings is 31 thousand m2, while their total volume is 156 thousand m3. The construction was finished in April 2017 and the total value of the project was PLN 156.74 million.
