Ladies and Gentlemen, I am delighted to present to you another integrated report of the Budimex Group, which presents both economic and social results, as well as socio-environmental issues.
Budimex’s social reporting has evolved over the last few years and is constantly adapted to the changing preferences of its customers. Last year, for the first time, we presented an integrated report, which included financial and non-financial data. This year, for the first time, we are publishing an integrated online report which has been additionally prepared on the basis of two types of guidelines: GRI G4 guidelines and updated GRI Standards which have been in force from this year.
The Budimex Group ended 2017 with very good results, both in terms of sales and net profit. We took first place among the largest general contractors in Poland for another year. This is a special year for us. We are celebrating Budimex’s 50th birthday, which is why we are all the more pleased that we began 2018 with a record order book of more than 10 billion zloty. We are aware that this success is largely due to a responsible approach to governance and positive relations with our partners and the environment. We are aware that our activities have a long-term impact on society and the environment, which is why for years we have been guided by the principles of sustainable development and responsible business. Building relationships based on understanding and trust is extremely important to us. We want to be a good neighbour to people living close to our investments. In 2017, we took part in many local sponsorship and charity campaigns at the request of our employees. We are also continuing with our flagship CSR projects – ‘Parent Zone’, ‘Domofon ICE’ and the internal project for Budimex Group employees – ‘Grant for Volunteering’.
One of the main priorities of Budimex is the systematic improvement of occupational health and safety standards, because it is the safety and the health of our employees and suppliers that are most important to us. We are therefore implementing increasingly advanced safety systems, and we are carefully analysing any situation in which an accident has occurred or could have occurred, and then we are introducing measures to eliminate the risks and to involve employees at all levels, our customers, and suppliers. We attach great importance to the fact that the people who work with us return safely to their homes each day.
We are aware that people are our most valuable resource, which is why we make every effort to ensure that work in the Budimex Group is satisfactory and provides opportunities for development. In 2017 we set up an innovation team, so that, on the one hand, employees could implement their own original ideas, and on the other hand, they could also access innovative solutions from the market. We have invited start-ups, technological companies and scientific organisations to cooperate with us. In 2017, thanks to the positive assessment by our employees, we won the ‘Human Resources Investor’ award. We are also among the TOP10 Best Employers 2017 in Poland. Ever since 2011, we have been a member of the Warsaw Stock Exchange RESPECT Index for companies that are managed in a responsible and sustainable manner.
The situation in the construction industry is dynamic and depends on many factors, but I can assure you that in the coming years we will continue the direction of development based on safety, the application of new technologies, innovation, and sustainable development.
This year we celebrate a milestone anniversary – half a century in business. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our stakeholders for their cooperation based on mutual respect and trust. I would also like to thank the employees of the Budimex Group for their great commitment and determination to achieve the set objectives. Thanks to you, we are the undisputed leader of the construction market in Poland.
